Our Story

Our church came into existence in part through the faithfulness, generosity, and vision of a historic church in Sioux Falls named Charis Church. After over 125 years of ministry, Charis made the courageous and bold decision to sell their building, and gift the funds from the sale to our denomination, the American Baptist Church of the Dakotas, in order to fund the launching of a new church on the rapidly growing northwest side of Sioux Falls. Charis enjoyed a great legacy of faithfulness in our city, and through this amazing gift, their vision to further the gospel and expand the Kingdom of God continues today through Invitation Church.

Dave Campbell began serving as our founding pastor on June 1, 2016 as preparations for a fall launch were being made. God provided an incredible ministry staff that consisted of a Worship Pastor, Kid’s Ministry Director, Community Groups Coordinator, and a Hospitality Ministry Coordinator, in addition to a launch team who together were committed to a strong and healthy beginning for Invitation Church.

In July of 2016 interest gatherings were held as Pastor Dave shared the heart, vision, and opportunity of this new church on the northwest side of Sioux Falls, and we began hosting worship gatherings at George McGovern Middle School on September 11th, 2016.

Our Weekend Gathering

We gather each Sunday at 10:45am at 2400 W. 18th Street

We have engaging community, vibrant worship, and you’ll hear a message from God’s word that will encourage, empower, and equip you to live the way of Jesus. In addition to our worship gathering, our team has also created a space for kids to encounter God and connect with each other. Our team would love to welcome you to Invitation Littles (birth-3 years), or Invitation Kids (4 years-2nd grade). We are hoping to add worship activities for children 3rd - 5th grade in the coming months. Please know that if your children are more comfortable staying with you in the service, they are welcome to do so!

If you’re worried about what you should wear, please don't be. We understand that God cares much more about our inner spiritual condition than our outward appearance. We have people who wear hats to church, t-shirts, dresses, and even dress shirts and slacks.

Our hope is that you’d come as you are. We consider your presence among us a gift.

We’re looking forward to seeing you this Sunday!

Our Vision

At Invitation Church we care deeply about:

1) People having an ENCOUNTER with Jesus

This means that we are focused on creating an environment that helps people experience God’s love, grace, and power in meaningful ways.

2) People having an IDENTITY to claim

This means that we are focused on creating an environment that helps people embrace their identity as sons and daughters of Almighty God.

3) People having a PLACE to belong

This means that we are focused on creating an environment that helps people embrace the truth that church is not an organization you join, but a family you belong to.

4) People having a CALL to live out

This means that we are focused on creating an environment that helps people explore their spiritual gifts and God-given purpose in life.
